Telecommunications, Electronics, and Computer (TEC) Services provides prompt, professional telecommunications cabling installation, electronics equipment maintenance, and computer and related peripherals repair. We are dedicated to prompt, cost-effective, and quality service to meet our customers’ constantly changing technical needs.

Telecommunications Network Installation Services

We can install virtually any type of contemporary telecommunications network used on campus for data, voice, and video applications. Highly trained Telecommunications Installation Professionals are well versed in the installation of telecommunications cabling networks and wireless LANs. Our expertise in the cabling installation arena spans a wide range of media to include fiber optic (single and multimode), Category 5 Unshielded Twisted Pair, and RG-6 coaxial cable. Cabling installation projects vary from one or two cable drops for an existing network to large jobs that distribute voice and data to more than 300 stations.  Our Wireless LAN Installation Team can install wireless networks that will serve the needs of a few users in a small office area to hundreds of users in multiple-story buildings.

Computer Repair

TEC Services is an authorized warranty service center for major brands of personal computers including Apple, Dell, Gateway, and IBM. For PC warranty customers, TEC Services responds to service requests in two to three business days. Customers can elect for TEC Services to perform the repair on-site, or they may opt to transport their PCs to the TEC Services’ facility on South Campus.  

We also provide reasonably priced, post-warranty service on all brands and configurations of personal computers and offers deeply discounted service contracts for UNIX-based computer workstations and servers manufactured by IBM Corporation (RISC 6000) and Sun Microsystems. Service agreement subscribers receive prompt attention: telephone callback within one hour and a service engineer routinely on-site within four business hours, but no later than eight business hours.

Office Equipment

TEC Services provides rapid, reliable maintenance for office equipment such as laser and inkjet printers, fax machines, typewriters, time-stamp machines, and other similar office machines. We are an authorized warranty center for Hewlett Packard (HP), Lexmark, and Dell printers, and we are capable of repairing virtually all models and makes of laser and ink-jet printers that are out of warranty.  Printer service is provided via annual service agreements (parts and labor) or on an as-needed basis using an hourly labor rate plus parts. Printer service technicians constantly update their service portfolios to stay apace of changing technology.  TEC Services also offers very reasonably priced annual service agreements for fax machines and typewriters.

Laboratory Instrumentation

TEC Services provides prompt, effective service on all makes and models of laboratory instrumentation from pH-meters to ultracentrifuges and mass spectrometers. In general, service capabilities are limited only by the availability of parts and technical data. In most cases customers pay one-third to one-half the repair costs charged by factory service engineers. TEC Services offers economically priced service contracts for Beckman Instruments centrifuges (L and J series) and Sorval centrifuges (R2 and R5 series), certification and repair of biological safety cabinets, and corrective and preventative maintenance for laboratory autoclaves.

Audio-Visual Equipment Repair

TEC Services repairs audio-visual equipment including projectors (LCD and overhead), PA systems, and individual audio components such as mixers and amplifiers.

Electronics Parts Sales

The Electronics Sales Section provides readily available, economically priced electronics parts. TEC Services stocks computer components and peripherals such as memory modules, hard and floppy drives, network interface cards (conventional and wireless), CD/DVD R/W drives, wire/wireless routers, hubs, keyboards, and more. The store carries electronics and electrical components including fuses, switches, batteries, cables (Cat 5E patch cords, printer, USB, and more), discrete electronics components (transistors, resistors, capacitors, etc.), integrated circuits, and electrical/electronics connectors. Parts also can be ordered to arrive on a date that meets customer needs.
